"Red Rover, Red Rover, Do We Let Spielberg Go Over?"

Blogroll Me!

Click on the linking title; first I heard of this "Hollywood moment".

All I have to say is "Spielberg, if you're reading this, you should BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!"

******

An afterthought: "Der Spiegel" -- the magazine named in the linked post -- translated from German means "the mirror". Steven, can you really look at yourself in the mirror now, and say you're pleased with what you said in Tom's defense? Maybe the mirror should crack and you should get some seven years of bad luck. Does Scientology allow these wives' tales in their doctrine?

You know, every time I try to foster just a little bit of admiration for worldly people like Spielberg, something runs back and detonates my attempt before my eyes.

Is it too much to hope that perhaps he just blurted something out to salvage the interview? Or am I being as deeply naive as I feel?

Oh, the world...

Maybe I just don't get it, but from reading the link I don't see what Spielberg did wrong.

He wasn't equating scientology to remembering the holocaust. He was comparing the dedication to tom cruise's cause to his dedication to the Shoah cause.

I find that considerably less distasteful to what I read when people compar Israeli disengagement policy to nazi final solution policy.

Spielberg's Shoah organization is something viable, borne out of a need, a recognition for survivors of true horrors to tell their stories, borne out of the need to educate others to never let these atrocities happen again.
Scientology, Tom's cause, is not believed by many to be a religion; it is something artificial, something conjured up from bits and pieces.
Okay, he claims he helps people, but in reading articles about this interview, we learn that he had a tent set up on the movie site, filled with Scientology followers that were now his staffers, educating others. I can't help but equate that to the country-crossing side shows where a medicine man would pitch his tent, and hawk his "miracle cures" to anyone who would stop and listen...and hopefully buy into the goods he had to offer.
I also can't help but think of these song lyrics, slightly altered for the sake of this discussion:

"...she blinded me with science --ooops, i mean
he was blinded by Scientology..."

I don't disagree that the Shoah foundation is of greater importance and substance than Scientology.

I just don't think we need to be so hyper sensitive to every comparison that is made. He was just comparing the personal amount of effort that Cruise puts into scientology to the amount he puts into his foundation.

I think at a siyum we say Anu Amaylim Vhaim Amelim. We work and they work. We work and get rewarded, and they work and don't get rewarded.

But it is the same work.

Okay, AirTime, I'll throw down my gauntlet...for now.

Have a good Shabbos.

I read recently that Spielberg allowed Cruise to set up a booth disseminating Scientology info on the set of the recent film they were working on.

Where is Spielberg's head? I find it completely inappropriate.

Furthermore, I've never been impressed with Cruise. He looks ridiculous with Katie Holmes. He looks like her father. What a moron.
