Just Say "We're Fixin' the Road"... Okay?

Blogroll Me!

On my way to and from work, I take varying routes-- no highways, but lots of side streets and main streets. I prefer driving through residential areas, looking at landscaping and architecture, rather than driving through commercialized main thoroughfares.

On one of my semi-regular routes is a big posted sign: Road Rehabilitation Program.

What a fancy-schmancy name; it just translates as "These roads are being fixed!"

But it sounds as if it's like a medical rehabilitation program -- a diagnosis, a prognosis, a method of care and paying lots of medical bills. In this case, it's break up the concrete, dig up some earth, add tar, flatten the tar, pave the road nice...and get lots of drivers irked because they have to slow down or find alternate routes.

Have any of you seen signs around (not necessarily roadworks-related) that say something basic but in a fancier way? Care to share?

What I hate is when you see these and folks are still driving seventy miles an hour through them. I lived next to a gal that had killed a road worker this way. I guess it is one of the most dangerous occupations.

I saw a sign on the door of a store that could have said, "NO EATING OR DRINKING" but instead said the much more pleasant, "Please enjoy your beverages and food outside the store."

It made me smile. It was in the South...

I hear there is a sign next to the ladies bathroom in the cafeteria, at one of our University campuses, that reads (and I'm paraphrasing) "this bathroom will not be used for purging"...a sign of our "bulemic" times.

There is a community near where I live that prides itself on diversity, liberal thinking and political activism (which I am all for...) but this I thought was a bit strange. Instead of having signs that says Speed Bumps, they choose to have their signs say Speed Humps.
